Kat's British friend, Megan, takes over this week and shares what she loves about the U.S.A.

As a Brit I find American culture fascinating, probably just as much as you find the Queen or our many green fields interesting. There are just a few things that I wish we had in the UK that you do. In the last year and a half, I have been fortunate enough to visit the US three times and I am about to embark on a fourth in a few short weeks, making it my sixth trip in my lifetime. Last summer I got the chance to work at a Summer Camp in Randolph, NY and boy was that an experience I will never forget! I tried new things and learnt lots about American culture, I even ended up coming home with a whole new vocabulary who’d have thought considering we speak the same language!
1. MAIL BOXES. Yes, you probably think I am crazy saying this! But these things don’t exist in the UK we just have a boring flap in our door that you post the mail through. I think they are so pretty! I’d have loved to have had one of these as a kid and run to the front of the house to get the mail. However, I’ve always wondered does mail not get stolen from mail boxes? As I can guarantee it would in the UK it would.
2. SUMMER CAMP. Now I really wish we had this in the UK as I wouldn’t have had endless summers bored in my house, I could have been making memories by a campfire singing songs and eating s’mores. However, in saying that I understand why we are not able to do this here. Our summers only last for six weeks as the school term is September to July and we simply do not have the lakes to create the same experience as the states or the Graham Crackers to have s’mores by the fire.
3. GRAHAM CRACKERS, CORNDOGS, M&M MINIS, PB & J’s. Now let’s be real here if American food were available in the UK I’d be three sizes larger than I am now, so it’s kind of a good thing some of these foods are off limits to us Brits. I must admit I did turn my nose up to these foods at first but I will say I love PB and J’s since spending 3 months’ states last year but it just doesn’t work on British bread. States bread is so much sweeter which takes the PB and J to a whole other level! Graham Crackers need to make it to the UK how else will I make s’mores? And why do M&M minis not exist in London’s M&M World is beyond me! So if anyone wants to be so kind and send me them, you’ll be my new best friend.
4. SEPHORA. I know Sephora exists in France but it’s a pathetic excuse compared to the States. As a huge make-up fan I can spend hours and hundreds of dollars in this store proven by my VIP points card. (oops!) But my excuse is its cheaper than paying shipping fee’s so I might as well take a trip to the states and stock up!
5. YOUR PASSION & PATRIOTISM. It came to a shock when I spent 4th July with a friend in NY last year as to how patriotic you all are compared to us Brits. It’s so nice to see. Another shocking discovery I made whilst out there was the way you fold your flags and how they cannot touch the floor. If you saw the UK after the London 2012 Olympics, you would have seen many flags lying on the floor and thrown away. Not out of disrespect it’s just the norm here.
