We kid... kind of.
By Rachel James (Treasurer/Writer)
It is not news that Hamilton has gone beyond the theatre world and into the mainstream consciousness of pop culture. In the last few weeks:
- A behind-the-scenes book was released, and Amazon ran out of books.
- Treasury Secretary Jack Lew announced that Hamilton would remain on the $10 bill.
- It won the Pulitzer Prize to surprise of literally no one. It was the one day where my Facebook feed went from Bernie vs. Hillary, to who knew first that Hamilton would win the Pulitzer. (Answer? Me. I saw it in previews at the Public.)
So it was only a matter of time before sketch comedy would climb aboard the Hamilton rocket. Above Average has taken the challenge and run with it.
RACHEL JAMES is a native New Yorker and theatre baby. Her plays have been produced by The 52nd Street Project and Starfish Theatreworks. She currently makes a living as a Broadway treasurer.
