So, over the past year, I've written a lot of material with a lot of different people. Different backgrounds, different skill sets, different likes and dislikes, different cultures - the list goes on. So it's safe to say, that sometimes information is lost in translation when collaborating with said other people. Sometimes you know exactly what you want a song to sound like, but then you try and demonstrate that to your partner, and they look at you like you are a different species.
"No, I don't know what you mean by 'make it more groovy.' Now please write intelligible lyrics."
On that note, I recently discovered a game that takes all the frustration of collaboration and stuffs it into a 5 - 10 minute challenge. Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes is a new video game that challenges one person to defuse a bomb that only they can see, while at least one other person attempts to help them by reading instructions out of a hard copy manual. It's aggravating and hilarious at once, and will likely ruin many friendships. 5/5 stars. Highly Recommended. Here's a video:
You will blow up many times. Because people are not to be relied on. But you also can't live without 'em.
Happy collaborating! :)
