One Internet User's Plea To Stop Using An Overplayed Meme.
By Gregory Jacobs-Roseman (Composer-Lyricist)
Okay, listen. Today is May 1st, 2015, and I’m calling it. It’s time. It’s time to retire this meme:
It was super hilarious when the meme was introduced a few years back, playing homage to Justin Timberlake’s pronunciation of the word “me” in the track of the same name as the meme on the 2000 NSYNC album “No Strings Attached,” but now at the end of April every subsequent year, it’s like: “ugh, I’ve already seen that.”
Stop using this meme. Stop it. You are not clever by posting this. In fact, you are the opposite of clever. You are tired. We all know May follows April. We’ve known it since we learned “April showers bring May flowers” in grade school. There is nothing clever about it anymore. We all had a laugh about this joke five years ago. It’s dead now.
And with that, happy May Day.
