Or: Sometimes I Stalk My Friends on YouTube.
By Gregory Jacobs-Roseman (composer-lyricist)
Tonight I am seeing the April installment of Molly Pope Likes Your Status at the Duplex, so naturally I got caught in a YouTube video hole of some of her past performances, and I can think of nothing better to post about today or to do now than to drag you into that hole with me.
Don’t know who cabaret diva Molly Pope is? Well I feel sorry for you, because you have been missing out. But there is no time like the present to get to know this brilliant performer. She’s one of the most unique and amazing singers I have had the good fortune to get to know over the years, with a voice that transports you back to the time when the Great American Songbook was being written. Also, she slays Sondheim like – well, like whistling at a dragon, as the lyric goes. In short, I'm obsessed.
But I’ll just let you fall in love with this fire-haired chanteuse for yourselves. Below are a couple of her many YouTube clips. I’m just so very excited to see her live tonight. It has been far too long. If you get a chance to catch one of her shows in the future (or tonight!), DO IT.
