I hope you all have been taking advantage of this magical time and creating some magical work. We all dream therefore we are all artist. You just have to find your art form!
I stumbled across an interesting exhibit this week in York College's art gallery. If you happen to find yourself on campus at CUNY York College or at Jamaica Center for some reason, stop by York's Fine Arts Gallery to see Nicholas Fraser's installment We Are Creating A Secure Connection.
Featured this week on:
Artist Watch
Nicholas Fraser
Here's some info I grabbed about the artist from the gallery:
"Nicholas Fraser was recently awarded a 2014 New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship for his ongoing video project Fronts. He's currently a participant in the Bronx Museum's Artist-in-Marketplace program and will be featured in the Bronx Museums's 2015 AIM Biennale.
He was recently appointed as facilitates manager for York College's Fine Arts Studios and Gallery, and will begin teaching in York's Fine Art Department as an adjunct professor in the fall of 2015"
On display are his projects Fronts, Mapping Project #6, and Branding Project #4: I swear somewhere the truth lies within this wood.
Fronts is an amalgamation of video recorded of store fronts that creates "texts" and showcases various aspects and moments of city-living. Here is a video prototype of the project:
I found Branding Project #4: I swear somewhere the truth lies within this wood the most interesting. It's wood pieces branded with SPAM email titles that tell a story of what is "pointless" in our society--or most most important. Here is a video of some of Fraser's other branding projects:
Nicholas Fraser's We Are Creating A Secure Connection will be on display until February 27th. The gallery is located on the first floor of York College (94-20 Guy R Brewer Blvd, Jamaica, NY 11451) and is open Monday-Friday from 9-5.
Today at 6 pm the artist will be in the gallery to discuss his projects. So stop by York College tonight to meet the artist!
